Which one looks like your counter after a grocery run?
Me… the plastic pile. I never really thought too hard about all the plastic bags my family of 7 takes home every week. I reuse them for dog messes, trash cans, ect and I even refuse a bag when I only have a few things, but really I know I can do more.
In other areas of my life we have slowly gone more sustainable, usually because it also makes more sense financially. We use reusable containers for daily lunches, even bought reusable plastic bags last month. We all have our water bottles and take those everywhere we go. So why not reusable grocery bags? I own many of them so that isn’t the issue. Honestly laziness probably is, but now thanks to Giant Eagle I am getting the push I need to make the switch.
Today I had the opportunity learn all about how Giant Eagle Market in Bexley, Ohio is making big sustainability changes in 2020. They will be removing all plastic bags from this location on January 1. They will be selling reusable bags starting at $.99 ( paper bags for $.10) and they will rewarding you for using them. At all Giant Eagle locations nationwide they will reward you with one fuel perk per reusable bag up to 10 perks per transaction.
If you are like me and likely to forget your bags at home, I suggest you keep them in your trunk! And if you worry these bags aren’t as good I promise they are even better. I tested them out for you and they don’t cut into your arm near as bad as the plastic ones plus they hold more per bag. Win- Win! I hope if you are like me and needed a push that this is the push that helps you become more sustainable!
