Fall is here and while the scenery is stunning the sudden onset of cooler temperatures can send some of us running back inside. This fall embrace the new season and head outside with your kids to marvel at and enjoy the ever-changing scenery. These simple and fun activities help our family to enjoy quality time together in the fall and they really are so much fun.
1.Make a Leaf Book : You can make it as simple as this version I did for my preschooler (card stock cut in half and stapled together) or you can buy an album and make a more in-depth book with your older kids. Turn a walk in the neighborhood into a leaf hunt. Once you have gathered your leaves label them by using books from the library or the internet. My daughter brings her book with us everywhere and is always looking for new leaves to add to it.
2.Go On a Scavenger Hunt: Use this simple leaf scavenger hunt to get some exercise while having fun looking for all different types of leaves. Collect the leaves or simply point them out as you continue on your hunt.
3. Take A Hike – Literally go for a hike in a local metro park, here in Ohio we have many beautiful areas to hike. Our family favorite is Highbanks Park, the foliage is beautiful there!
4. Go Apple Picking – Here in Ohio we have some amazing apple orchards. It is so much fun to spend a few hours picking the perfect apples, and sampling some along the way! Come home and do some baking as a family. I eagerly anticipate making this Apple Crumb Pie with our freshly picked apples each fall.
5. Make a Gratitude Tree – A few years ago, we made these fun Gratitude Trees and this year we will be doing them again. The kids loved finding the perfect sticks, filling the jars with beans and writing on their leaves the things they are grateful for. It is a great way to prepare them for the upcoming season.
These are 5 fun ways that you can really enjoy this beautiful season of Fall, I know my family loves all of these activities and we do them every year! Thank you to the Genius of Play for reminding me how important it is to do activities like this with my kids!
