Last night my husband and I made a King Cake together from scratch. We waited until the kids were in bed and then we started baking. My kids had never had a king cake and the squeals of delight when they woke up on Fat Tuesday were worth the late night. While I am happy they enjoyed the surprise that isn’t the reason we made it, together. We made it together to strengthen our marriage. While out to dinner over the weekend we both expressed a wish to deepen our relationship. We have been married almost 13 years and we are very much in love, but we are busy. We are raising 5 girls who want to do and try everything. Each of us has our own interests and pursuits that also take our time. We decided we needed to find a hobby that was ours. A skill we can work on together, grow together with and enjoy. We decided on cooking/baking. While taking classes sounds fun that’s not something we have time for right now.
Together we bought a few books including How to Bake Everything. We discussed things we would love to try and make and then we made a plan to try to make something new, together, without the kids, every week. This week we seized the moment and decided to make a Traditional King Cake from scratch. It was a delicious success and an enjoyable evening of baking with my husband! I think this joint cooking hobby is going to be a very good thing for us! I can’t wait for our next cooking adventure.
This looks really good that is nice to that you have someone to cook with always more fun with someone else.
