It’s the time of the year when even those who rarely bake start baking! Christmas cookie time! I love making Christmas cookies. Often my mom and I get together and bake all day long making a wide variety of treats. For me this is one of those things that mean Christmas is almost here. The counters are covered in delicious treats and I am packing them all for co-workers, neighbors and friends. I have so many wonderful memories of baking with my mom. I love that my girls are now making these memories too! Someday they will make these same recipes with their kids, traditions like these are what make the holidays extra special to me.
Every year we make Christmas cut out cookies with my in-laws. It’s their thing they use a family recipe and this special icing and the kids love it. I have attempted cut out cookies before and never had success. This year I decided to try some on my own to give to our neighbors and SUCCESS! Not only did the cookies turn out perfectly shaped they are delicious and cute. I also found bags of crushed candy canes that make the perfect topping. I finally updated my bakeware too and am in love with this T-Fal non-stick AirBake cookie sheet, the cookies came out PERFECT and not a crumb stuck to the cookie sheet! And this rolling pin won’t roll away and it’s nonstick, brilliant! And a good whisk is a bakers best friend!
Peppermint Bark is the newest edition to our holiday traditions, one I added a few years after getting married. My kids love to help make this easy Christmas treat! You just need 2 ingredients, a great spreader spatula, parchment paper and patience!
Mix one package of melted baking chocolates with about 6 crushed candy canes, Spread the mixture out on parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Let cool. Break into pieces and enjoy or fill adorable holiday baggies and give them to your friends and neighbors.
Do you have a go to holiday recipe? One your friends and family look forward to eating every Christmas?
