This summer has been crazy busy and I just can’t seem to slow down. My 4 oldest girls are on swim team which is fun for all of us. They swim 5 days a week plus a swim meet and that has kept us pretty darn busy. I love the exercise and team atmosphere swimming provides for my girls and it is making for a great summer. My husband and I have been spending our evenings trying to turn our backyard into a place we can relax and spend our summer evenings.
We started by adding this pergola, it is the perfect addition to our deck. The sun crosses our yard and makes it unbearably hot and no umbrella has provided enough coverage to allow us to comfortably eat dinner outside. The shade moves from side to side and has been perfect, plus it looks great.
Bugs tend be an issue and I am the first the mosquitos go for me first. I have planted 3 citronella plants in pots on the deck and it seems to be making a difference. We also have tiki torches mounted to the deck at all the corners. I added some pretty shelving to store our stuff from the new IKEA store here in Columbus and am so happy with how the deck is looking. Speaking of IKEA I picked up these super cute shaped ice molds and they make drinks so much more fun. My current drink favorite is lemonade, a splash of blueberry vodka and fish shaped ice cubes made of cranberry juice… yum! I love sipping this on my deck under the lights. That’s right I forgot to mention the fun outdoor lights we added to the pergola.
Thanks to my husband and girls I have been reading more than ever this summer and in this exact spot, it’s wonderful! The got me an Amazon Kindle Voyager which allows me to read in all circumstances even in the sunlight by the pool with polarized sunglasses on. It’s a book worms dream come true!
For our anniversary my husband and I got a hammock. Together we dug the holes and cemented in the posts, it was fun working on a project together again. Today we finally added the hammock and these cute pillows, both were on sale a perk to being a bit late into summer picking it up I guess!
How is your summer going? Hopefully you are getting some relaxation in either at home or on vacation!
