Since I was a little girl my mom washed my hair in the kitchen sink with a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water. This may sound like a strange thing to do but it is really great for your hair. The apple cider strips all the product buildup from your hair and leaves it feeling very soft, silky and clean. On top of the natural cleansing aspects the apple cider vinegar will bring out any natural red highlights you have in your hair. Are you a blonde or want blonde highlights? You can use lemon juice instead and you will get the same results.
Apple Cider or Lemon Juice Hair Cleanser: Mix equal parts cider (or lemon juice) with water it helps to use an old shampoo bottle and keep it in your shower. Simply shampoo as normal then rinse with the vinegar mixture. Rinse out the vinegar and follow with conditioner as normal. Worried about the vinegar smell? If you have some essential oils add a few drops of lemon or orange.
I do this to my girls once a month, they are used to the routine already. I forgot about my mom washing my hair in the sink until vacation this summer. While at the lake on vacation I washed my older girls hair in the sink and they loved it. I never really understood why my mom did it but now I do. Once your kids start showering on their own they just can’t do as good a job and the wash in the sink is needed.
After doing this you will notice your hair is less weighted down, feels softer and looks and feels healthier, enjoy!
