As of thismonth I have officially been a mom for 10 years…. it’s still sinking in!
10 is a big deal, it’s the start of a new adventure. 10 means they are no more little yet not big. They still want to spend more time with mom and dad than friends and it is the perfect time for a special one on one road trip. My husband and I decided that when our girls turn 10 they would get to go on a road trip with the parent of their choosing. In a large family like ours the gift of undivided attention for a weekend is priceless.
As my oldest approached her 10th birthday she chose me for the trip and Cincinnati as our destination. She really wanted to go to the Newport Aquarium as she loves animals and really wanted to see the penguins. Drive Shop generously provided us with a 2016 Toyota Highlander XLE AWD for our trip and it was the perfect road trip vehicle. This car offered all kinds of luxury amenities and my daughter loved using them all. She road like a queen in her comfy captains chair and used the side table to hold her Kindle, snacks and other trip necessities. I enjoyed all the extra safety features as we went on our road trip. The alerts kept me safe from other cars, the back up camera made street parking extra easy and the sunroof meant we enjoyed a beautiful day while we drove! Even though we where only going for the weekend we packed plenty of stuff which the Highlander easily handled when we folded down the back row of seats.
I was definitely very sad to give this car back, it was fabulous!
So our adventure took us to Newport Aquarium which was incredible. We arrived right at opening and it was a wise decision. The rooms were not crowded and we took our time looking at and touching everything. Take a look at some of the cool things we did including the Touch Pool, Walking over the Shark Bridge, Touching Sharks, Touching a Turtle and having a back stage visit with the penguins.
We paid extra to do the penguin excursion and even though expensive it was totally worth it. We got to go behind the scenes into a small enclosure where we sat with penguins milling about our feet. It was an amazing experience and we got to pet the penguins and really interact with them. This encounter was definitely worth the extra cost!
The trip was a huge success with my daughter declaring it the best weekend ever. Two more years and our next child will be ready for her trip!
