As a nursing mom it was really difficult to watch my daughter cry knowing something I ate bothered her. I will never forget calling my husband in tears. I was a new mom already doubting myself and now this. My daughter had been crying all day and I mean ALL DAY. I had tried everything, I even recall taking her clothes off desperately hoping a scratchy tag was at fault for both of our suffering.
I called my husband in tears and confessed my failure as a mom. We both wanted a big family but in that moment I sobbed “How can we have any more kids when I can’t even keep 1 baby happy!!!”. Turns out my daughter is allergic to milk, not surprising since I had a milk allergy at her age too. I have since grown out of the allergy and now simply have a lactose intolerance which is why I did not even worry about cutting all dairy from my diet while nursing and my poor daughter suffered.
After that first painful lesson I cut all dairy from my diet while nursing my subsequent babies. When I had to switch to formula with my 3rd baby I was very nervous about how she would react to formula. I never even tried regular formula but immediately went to Similac Soy Isomil formula, but she did not respond well. After lots of research and asking around we tried Similac Alimentum and that was just right.
As moms we want to keep our kids happy and safe so when the food we are giving them causes them discomfort and pain it is really hard. Mommy guilt hits full force and that is never a good thing. I am grateful that Similac is thinking about moms like me who need more options for our kids sensitive tummies. Similac even offers the the Similac Tummy Care Guarantee, which allows moms and dads to try another type of Similac formula free if your baby’s tummy doesn’t agree with a Similac product.
When yours babies formula is hurting their tummy it’s awful. There is nothing more heart wrenching than an unhappy baby. It makes me so happy that moms can turn to Similac for support and try a new formula for free because happy babies is what matters most!
No matter what your choice is as a mom, breastfeeding or formula, we all want happy babies. And we all need to support each other as we do our best for our kids. Join Similac and end the mommy wars. Offer support instead of judgement!
