This past Friday I had the pleasure of attending the LIVE Seattle’s Best Red Cup Showdown at The Ohio State Fair with celebrity host Chef Jeff Mauro. This was my first time attending a judging of any fair events besides the animals and I was excited to watch the contestants create coffee drinks LIVE! Once I found the event it was pure entertainment, Chef Jeff Mauro did a great job hosting the event and I really enjoyed his commentary as the drinks were created.
The event had 3 rounds that went fairly quickly and each contestant had impressive drink recipes! I enjoyed hearing the stories behind the creations and seeing all the creative things people added to coffee. One lady had mini waffles and bacon bits, another had homemade whip cream (yes she did win) and one lone man entered he added peanut butter and got third place!
Celebrity host Chef Jeff Mauro was great not only as a commentator for the Red Cup Showdown but also to talk with. Chef Jeff Mauro is a very friendly and all around nice guy. I had my youngest daughter with me and it made me smile when Chef Jeff Mauro’s son wandered on stage and he just went with it, what a great dad!
The winner of the Seattle’s Best Red Cup Showdown at the Ohio State Fair was from Cincinnati and she made a drink called the Orange Blossom. She brought homemade whip cream with her and was so cute and sweet during the competition. After the awards were given I got to chat with Chef Jeff Mauro, I asked him about the Ohio entries versus the entries from California. His response, “Ohio brought it with clean flavors and great drinks!” Way to go OHIO you make me proud!
After the showdown I headed outside with my two fellow bloggers and we checked out the Seattle’s Best red truck. The truck was distributing delicious iced coffee drinks for everyone at the fair to enjoy. They also had a really fun photo opportunity where you stand in a red mug. They take your photo and email it to you with the caption I was mugged! So cute. Of course they were giving out free Seattle’s Best coffee samples and they even had a prize wheel.
The whole Seattle’s Best Red Cup Showdown experience was so much fun. The competition was a blast and who doesn’t love free coffee, especially free iced coffee on a hot day! Be sure to follow #RedCupShowdown on Twitter to keep up to date on the other 3 state fair recipe competitions.
