Recently I saw a patio makeover by Katja on Skimbaco Lifestyle and I was drooling! Katja did an amazing Morrocan theme and it was all with items from Kmart, I never would have guessed by the photos it looks so fabulous. I was lucky enough to get chosen to do a mini makeover and of course I used Katja’s makeover to inspire my own. Originally I wanted to get new chairs for my table and I planned on painting my table to match. I shopped Kmart outdoor online and found some chairs for $249.99 and I also wanted an umbrella since mine was gross. I found a basic umbrella for under $50 and I was set to go shopping.
I have a large patio and large backyard which is perfect since we have a very small house. All of our family is here in town and we like to host events and that usually exceeds 25 people just family. Since we don’t have the space inside we love to host all the events from Spring until Fall. We have two tables for seating adults plus a kids picnic table and lots of yard to play in so the space is perfect, it’s just the atmosphere that is lacking. We headed to Kmart for chairs and an umbrella but once I got there I decided to take another approach.
My husband loved the idea of a fire pit and when I saw the stylish fire pit from Jaclyn Smith ($79.99) I knew we would have hours of great conversation and marshmallow roasting around it so in the cart it went. Then I saw a fabulous red and brown brocade umbrella from Jaclyn Smith ($101.99) and I could not settle for a solid color so we bought that too. That meant chairs were out and decor was in (which is more fun anyway). Kmart had so many fabulous decor items I wanted but with 3 little kids I had to be conscious of what was practical for me and what would just be a temptation to break for my kids. I also had to consider that we have a really bad mosquito problem and anything that can look good and repel bugs would be great for us. I found a fabulous Jaclyn Smith candle holder ($15.99) and some citronella votives to fill it with. I knew I needed decor for my other table but it is small and I have a bistro set coming in the mail with a little table so I settled on some stylish solar lanterns ($11.99) that look good and provide neat mood lighting in the evening.
I was still concerned about my bug issue so I went in search of Tiki torches and found the King Torch ($13) which is big and sturdy and I love the look of it. Tiki even makes an oil for the torches that repels mosquitoes (perfect)! I bought two torches one for each end of the patio and some stakes to make sure they are nice and secure. My husband and I had a great time setting up our new patio decor and it even inspired me to get out my place-mats that match the umbrella. I have been lazy since having kids and not going the extra mile to set a nice table outside but this makeover reminded me to use what I have to make the best atmosphere I can outside and the results were pretty fabulous!
Check out how my backyard turned out ( be sure to check out my This Moment story for even more photos)! We are really thrilled with the results and have eaten lunch and dinner outside every day since doing the makeover. The umbrella and decor improved the look of my table and chairs so much I decided not to paint them like I originally wanted to. I am thrilled with how far $300 went at Kmart and how much better my outdoor space looks. As you get your backyard ready for entertaining be sure to check out Kmart and all they have to offer. Kmart has great prices with almost all of the outdoor living products on sale so you can really stretch your dollar right now.
This was a sponsored shop for Collective Bias, all opinions and pictures are my own.
Don’t you just love the fire pit? Your yard looks great! Please come and share your post on the tomorrow’s Twitter party too!
It’s amazing what the color red can do to any space. I love your makeover. I also have to agree with Katja on the fire pit. What’s not to love? You can have S’mores all summer long and tell stories by the fire. Great job!
I love all of the pattern and the red is to die for. It really does change things up. The firepit is lovely.
I love that umbrella! The table looks amazing with the bold red too. You will enjoy your fire pit. We bought our second one a couple years ago. We find hard to cover (because we dont trust it is really “out” and so stays uncovered outside and rusts so easily). any suggestions out there for this problem?
the one you found is SO cool!
What a great job! I love the color red too!
Lovin’ the red! That is my signature home color, and it looks really great outside!
you did great. Fabulous makeover Tweeting for you
LOVE that umbrella! I didn’t see that at my local Kmart or I definitely would’ve added that to my makeover! I’ll keep an eye out now! 🙂
The red adds such a nice pop to it all! Fire pits are wonderful, aren’t they?
I too love the red. We’re hoping to add a patio one of these days to replace our deck which is falling apart. Great job on the makeover!
You did a great job. I love the umbrella and the candles. Very nice:)
