Jeans That Make You Look Slimmer? Yes Please

high waisted flare jeans

Like many of you I am carrying around a few more pounds than I want. I have the best of intentions but reality is I am not at a stage in my life that I can make exercise a regular part of my routine, having 5 kids under 10 will do that to you. Instead of getting down on myself every time I skip working out or grab one too many cookies I have decided to rework my wardrobe to best flatter where I am at right now and that leads me to my latest revelation!

Now before I reveal what kind of jeans you need ( and yes you NEED them) banish any preconceived notions you have of what mom jeans are. Image gone? Are we starting with a clean slate?

Good… read on….

High-waist Jeans are AMAZING!

That’s right I want all of you to buy high-waist jeans and here is why.

  1. They help suck in that baby belly area smoothing everything out and making you look great.
  2.  No muffin top, it’s impossible to have a muffin top with high waist jeans!
  3. Comfort. The high waist is so comfy and means you can do all your mom things and not worry about crack.
  4. Curves. These babies give you curves whether you have them or not!
  5. Every Size and Shape – They are available on jeans that are perfect for every size and shape.
  6. ON TREND. Oh yes high waist jeans are on trend and everywhere right now. You can find every fit and every wash so the perfect pair is out there for you!

So how do you style these jeans. First of all you don’t have to tuck them in so no worries there, no one even needs to know if you are wearing high waist jeans. So put a flowy top on and enjoy that smooth line underneath. Or do a tuck and show off those curves, the sky is the limit!

So what brought about my love for high waist pants. The GAP high waist flares I ordered arrived and no joke I zipped them up and lost 10 pounds…. SOLD! Now I want all the high waist jeans!!!

So here are a few I like, grab a pair and embrace your mom body!

3 Ways to Wear a Midi Skirt for Fall

marron skirt with heels

Midi skirts are super popular right now but they can be a bit tricky to wear. While I love them on others I have shied away from them as I still felt unsure on styling them. I spent the weekend playing around with my new Lands’ End Midi Boot Skirt and came up with 3 different ways to wear it for fall that I just love.

How to Style a Midi Skirt for Fall

marron skirt ikat shirt

Top from LOFT – Skirt from Lands’ End – Necklace (similar) & bracelets from Conversation Pieces – Shoes (similar) from Call It Spring – Belt from GAP

maroon boot skirt

Look 1: Style your midi skirt with a tee, add a belt for definition and some edgy heels.

I feel like traditional midi skirts can look a bit old fashioned but with the right accessories and stylish shoes you can give it a more modern look and of course if you tuck in add a belt!

maroon skirt white blouse

Top from Lands’ End – Skirt from Lands’ End -Necklace (similar) from Conversation Pieces – Belt (old) – Shoes (similar) from RackRoom

lands end maroon boot skirt

Look 2: Wear a collared shirt! A white collared shirt tucked into a skirt is so classic and fabulous, but be sure to add a little fun like leopard heels!

I love how the collar up and the wide belt give this outfit more character than you typically get when pairing classics.

turtleneck marron boot skirt

Jacket from Wilson’s Leather – Top from Lands’ End – Skirt from Lands’ End – Necklace (similar) from Kohl’s – Shoes (similar) from RackRoom

maroon boot skirt heels

Look 3: Leather jacket. Everything looks better with a great leather jacket and this short sleeved turtleneck is the perfect backdrop for the layered statement necklace.

All 3 looks can have the shoes swapped out for closed toe booed either ankle or knee high to vary the look as the weather gets colder. Each of these looks in unique so you can get lots of wear out of your midi skirt this fall!

This post is about real moms who have real style. Oxfords, Cardigans and Tunics… Oh My! Fall Fashions from J.Jill

jjill marled red sweater

Hopefully you saw my earlier posts showing two fabulous pieces from J.Jill for fall along with many ways to style them! Well I am back featuring 2 more pieces and once again I have teamed up with other talented fashion bloggers to give you lots of ways to wear these stylish pieces.

Today I am sharing the J.Jill shirttail-hem silk tunic and the J.Jill marled open-front cardi. The thing I love about these two pieces is that each one looks great alone but together they look fabulous too! J.Jill is a brand that can be worn in minimalist fashion and look great but it can also be layered and personalized to fit you. I almost never wear all of one brand at once, I prefer to mix and match to make pieces my own and this outfit is a perfect example…

jjill marled sweater

I am wearing the J.Jill shirttail-hem silk tunic and the J.Jill marled open-front cardi with Target distressed jeggings and Call It Spring gold oxford shoes. I love the mix of dressy and casual with a bit of preppy thrown in. This outfit is great for being a mom as it is comfy and easy to do pretty much anything in all while looking great.

jjill cream tunic

Like I said these pieces can stand alone easily too just check out the J.Jill shirttail-hem silk tunic all it needs is some great pants and shoes and you have a classic outfit. The breezy flow of this top makes it comfortable and flattering! I added some edgy jewelry to make it more me and well open toed boots of course!!

As I mentioned I teamed up with 3 other stylish bloggers to show you just how versatile these pieces from J.Jill can be so check out Momma in FlipFlops, Thirty Something Fashion and BonBon RoseGirls for more outfit inspiration.

Tunics and Wide Leg Pants – J.Jill Fall Collection

jjill wide leg pants black

Fall is coming  and tunics and wide legs pants are what you want in your wardrobe. I used to LOVE wide leg pants and am very excited they are back. J.Jill has a pair of knit wide-leg crop pants that are super cozy as well as cute! As we transition from summer to fall the weather stays warm here in Ohio so I paired them with a cute embellished tank, denim vest and some heels. This outfit is super stylish yet very comfortable, I mean the pants are like pajamas, so soft and flowy!

jjill wide leg pants

Now let’s talk tunics and this fabulous gingham easy shirt from J.Jill. Now you know that patterns make me a bit skittish and while I love them on others I tend to avoid them on me. Well I took a step out of my comfort zone and am really glad I did. Not only is this gingham shirt super cute it is sooooo comfortable! The lack of structure in this flowy shirt is just dreamy and it can be styled so many ways.

jjill black and white gingham top

jjill gingham tunic

This shirt looks fabulous with my scuba leggings from last year and these great white peep toe wedge heels. This look is easy and takes little thought to look great.

jjill gingham shirt 1

That look is great for going out on a date or girl’s  night but this shirt is also great every day. Pair it with some distressed jeans, a boyfriend cardigan and open toed booties for the perfect running around outfit.

jjill black and white gingham tunic top

As you can see these pieces are super versatile and fabulous. I teamed up with 3 other bloggers who also styled these same 2 pieces to show you lots of ways to wear full-leg crop pants and a gingham easy shirt check out Momma in FlipFlops, Thirty Something Fashion and BonBon RoseGirls.

What I Wore Real Mom Style: Flare Jeans #RealMomStyle

flare jeans

This week is more about what I will be wearing. Last week I  spent at a family campground where I had no internet and not even any data since my phone did not really get service. I laughed because my husband would text me from another area of the campground and about 3-6 hours later I would get the text, gotta love technology when it doesn’t work right.

Every year we go to this place, it is run by our church and it is a wonderful, a time to reconnect as a family and spend some time working on our faith. Sooooo all that to say I have no fashion photos since I dressed in grubby clothes for camping.

Instead today I want to share what I am adding to my fall wardrobe… flare jeans. These wide leg pants are back in a big way and while I am still not fully committed to them I have ordered a pair to try. This trend is not going anywhere so here are few pairs I like and some are even on sale right now so you can get a jump on your fall wardrobe!

DL 1961 flare jeans

I decided to order these flare jeans from ShopBop because I like the look and the bit of distressing makes them more me, PLUS I have a credit so with the sale price of $98 they are perfect!

flare jeans from GAP

These 1969 resolution vintage destructed skinny flare jeans are pretty fabulous and they are high-waisted which I love! These are $79 BUT until end of day tonight with code TREAT they are 40% off making them $47.97

So these are the two pairs I am really loving, I will probably cave and order the GAP ones too since they are a great deal and see which I like better once they both arrive!

How are you feeling about flare jeans? Bring back the 70’s fashion yay or nay?

This post is about real moms who have real style. While we all fall into the jeans and t-shirt rut we are encouraging our fellow moms to take the time to dress their best and rock it like the rock star moms they are! 2 Must Have Fall Items For Your Wardrobe

chadwicks olive green cardigan

I know it is still hot out but Fall is coming and that means it is time to start thinking Fall wardrobe. I am not going to pretend to be sad because Fall is my absolutely favorite time of year fashion-wise. I mean boots, sweaters, layers… you know, I am in fashion heaven!

As you start to go through you clothes from last year and decide what you need to update your wardrobe here are two things that you must have in your fall wardrobe

1. A great boyfriend cardigan

2. A statement dress

chadwicks olive green cardigan 1

I have a black boyfriend cardigan that I wear all the time (if you don’t have one get one) so now I need some great colors to add to my collection and this Boyfriend Cardigan from Chadwicks of Boston is fantastic! Not only is the fit great but it comes in 12 COLORS (as well as petite, tall and women’s)!!! That’s right plus the more you buy the cheaper they get, so that is great too.

A boyfriend cardigan looks great with tanks tops, tees, collared shirts, jeans, pants, skirts and even dresses. Really the perfect versatile layering piece for fall.

chadwick's striped dress 1

Next a statement dress! Every season you need a new dress that not only makes you feel fabulous but makes a statement. You should already have your little black dress as well as a few other staple dresses so grab something fun and eye catching like this Mitered Stripe Drape Neck Dress from Chadwicks. This dress is knit and fits like a dream plus it has a built in panel so the drape is totally appropriate and flattering. As the season gets colder add a great leather jacket for an edgier look.

  2. You can do anything in them, no restrictions when it comes to being super mom.
  3. They come in all kinds of materials and version so there is pair for everyone.
  4. You can dress them up or wear them casual, either way they look great.

Back to School with Carter’s – Now Size 8 #8isGreat Plus Carter’s Coupon

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Carter’s. I received a complimentary gift card to facilitate my review and thank me for my participation. I also have a Carter’s coupon for you.

carters gray sweatshirt

Yes you read that right Carter’s now carries SIZE 8!!!!!

And yes that is me shouting in celebration because I dearly love Carter’s and I am sad the day my girls can no longer wear it. I have tall girls, I mean really tall and that means they wear clothing 1-2 sizes above their age. My 7 year old has been wearing size 8 since her 7th birthday, until yesterday that meant she no longer was able to wear Carter’s. And yes I am the mom who coordinates and dresses her kids alike on occasion so having Carter’s stop so small really messed with my plans on several occasions!

carters 8 is great

carters fall collection

Now that I have shared my woes of Carter’s not having size 8 clothing let’s celebrate all the cuteness my daughter got for back to school in SIZE 8 FROM CARTER’S! I took her in and let her roam free picking out what ever caught her eye, and there was a lot to choose from. She is going into 2nd grade, still my baby but edging towards more big girl stuff. Carter’s had lots of modern, fresh and super cute outfits to choose from.

carters romper

My favorite find of all is the cutest romper ever and the best part is we thought it was a dress until she got home and tried it on. We both fell in love and she wore it out to lots of compliments today. She picked out several skirt and shirt combinations one with a cute graphic of a puppy and another in a teal lace over lay that looks so good on her ( brings out her eyes).

carters dog shirt

carters teal top

I love that Carter’s has all kinds of tunic and leggings options and fun leggings to pair with dresses. My girl is a girly girl and she wants to wear skirts and dresses everyday but that doesn’t mean she isn’t running and playing with the boys at recess. So we need leggings, always, and Carter’s provides them. Jjust look at this adorable denim dress and hot pink leggings!

Did I mention Carter’s has great prices? Right now the Bright Now Sale (40% off Entire Store) 7/14 – 8/4 is going on and add to that this great 20% coupon (see end of post to print it off) I have and I got all of this pictured for $109. PLUS they are offering $5 and up doorbusters: $5 baby short sleeve tees & shorts, $6 (toddler/big), $6 Pants, $6 Leggings $6 Slogans & $12 Hoodies. So head in to Carter’s and stock up for fall and don’t forget to take your size 8 child with you to grab some Carter’s for Back to School!

Karina Dresses – A Fit for Every Woman

karina dress

Dresses can be really hard to fit on some women, I am one of them. Weight really has nothing to do with it, it is all about body type and my body type is not fit for dresses. I had seen Karina Dresses popping up in my Instagram feed and every time, no matter the body type they looked fabulous on.

So I took the plunge and decided to try a Karina Dress. Right away I was thrilled to see that you can shop by body type, that is fabulous for people who are unsure what looks good on them. I went by the guide and picked a dress for my body type and I am happy to say it fit great. The cut is flattering and the material is wrinkle free, yep machine washable and not a wrinkle in sight. Perfect for busy moms or traveling or both!

karina jenny dress

As if a perfect fit and no wrinkles is not enough to make you fall in love then knowing they are made in Brooklyn , NY should be the tipping point. So try a Karina Dress, I am sure you will be as happy as I am with the results. And if you alraedy have one I would love to know which one?
