Karina Dresses – A Fit for Every Woman

karina dress

Dresses can be really hard to fit on some women, I am one of them. Weight really has nothing to do with it, it is all about body type and my body type is not fit for dresses. I had seen Karina Dresses popping up in my Instagram feed and every time, no matter the body type they looked fabulous on.

So I took the plunge and decided to try a Karina Dress. Right away I was thrilled to see that you can shop by body type, that is fabulous for people who are unsure what looks good on them. I went by the guide and picked a dress for my body type and I am happy to say it fit great. The cut is flattering and the material is wrinkle free, yep machine washable and not a wrinkle in sight. Perfect for busy moms or traveling or both!

As if a perfect fit and no wrinkles is not enough to make you fall in love then knowing they are made in Brooklyn , NY should be the tipping point. So try a Karina Dress, I am sure you will be as happy as I am with the results. And if you alraedy have one I would love to know which one?

Back to School with Lands’ End

lands end back to school

Yes I know the last thing you want to hear about is back to school stuff but learn from my mistakes in the past, denial will cost you! The best way to face the beast is head on so acknowledge it is coming and start planning!

Every year Lands’ End is on my list of places to shop, as a mom of kids in uniforms they offer items I can’t find anywhere else. We have several uniform shops in town but the quality is nowhere near what Land’s End offers. I buy our gym class school uniform mesh shorts from Lands’ End as the cut and fabric is much better for my girls than the unisex ones I found elsewhere. I also buy skorts and polos as well as sweaters.

lands end backpack

This year I added a few new things to my list from Lands’ End like a monogrammed back pack and shoes. As a kid I always had a Lands’ End monogrammed back pack and they lasted forever. My oldest is finally ready to part with those cheapy trendy back packs and get a real back pack that will last her a few years. The color choices and size options for back packs from Land’s End was incredible and she found one she absolutely loves the School Uniform Print ClassMate® Extra Large Backpack in vibrant plum tie dye.

lansd end shoes

As for shoes our dress code is moderately strict and we end up with a pair of mary jane style shoes and a pair of tennis shoes every year. This year we went with the School Uniform Girls’ Mary Jane Play Shoes I love that they offer a great sole with a  dressier look, the perfect combination for school.

lands end cardigan

This year I bought a more grownup style sweater for my oldest daughter and well I wish it came in my size. How cute is this School Uniform Girls’ Cardigan in pewter? I mean I would love it with skinny jeans and some boots! And since it actually does come in my size I think we just might be twinning it this fall! Do you think she will die of embarrassment or love it? I guess we will find out!

Do you buy your back to school supplies at Lands’ End? Are you kids in uniforms too? I would love to hear your must have items from Lands’ End for back to school!

What I Wore Real Mom Style: My love of Joggers Continues

polka dot jogger pants

I really can not get enough of jogger pants, they are so comfy and yet stylish. I love that they can be dressed up and yet I feel like I am in my pajamas! Yesterday we were celebrating my parents anniversary after we went to church so I knew whatever I wore needed to be comfortable and good for chasing kids as I was going to be in it most of the day. So I of course turned to my favorite pants, my jogger pants! I love these polka dot ones by Lauren Conrad from Kohl’s, perfect for church and lunch and comfort all day long!

Speaking of looking good and comfort I am thinking of growing my hair back out which kind of terrifies me. I love that I look and feel put together every day ( no chance of a ponytail) but I miss the versatility. This is going to be a painful process, anyone had short hair like mine and grown it out? Who knows I may totally hate longer hair and chop it all off again, for now I need to figure out my end goal for my hair!

So back to the outfit, I kind of had a stroke of genius, in my opinion, when I decided to add the denim vest. I really love how this outfit turned out, hopefully you do too!

Bug Smarties Insect Shield Children’s Apparel from OneStepAhead

bug repellant clothes

That’s right insect shield children’s apparel as in bug repelling kid’s clothing. Yep clothing that repels mosquitoes, ticks, ants, flies, chiggers and midges (no-see-ums). One Step Ahead is now carrying a line of children’s playwear that repels bugs. Bonded into the fabric is an invisible and odor-less repellant that lasts up to 7o washes, plenty for a summer of outdoor fun. Before you panic this has been tested, proven and EPA registered.

So what exactly is this collection? Bug Smarties Insect Shield Children’s Playwear is adorable kid’s clothing that looks cute and keeps your little ones bug free. I try to avoid DEET, especially with my little ones, but we go camping and I worry about my kids being eaten alive. And then there are ticks, we had our first tick encounter this spring and it was awful ticks terrify me. So knowing there is another way to protect my kids from bugs and the diseases they carry has me thrilled.

insect shield bug repellant clothing

You can see my two youngest dressed in the Bug Smarties Insect Shield line from One Step Ahead, they even have a headband to protect their faces!  When we go camping we always wear long sleeve and pants in the evening for our campfire and later activities and these clothes will be perfect. And for my older girl’s who can’t wear this line I am grabbing them headbands so I don’t have to bug spray their faces!

As you do more and more outdoor activities consider grabbing some items from the Bug Smarties Insect Shield Children’s Playwear collection at One Step Ahead, I know it has been a wet summer here and the bugs are super bad! Available in size 2T-7-8 for both boys and girls.

3 Ways to Wear a Maxi Skirt for Summer

I love maxi skirts in the summer, they are an effortless way to look put together and yet stay comfortable and cool. Today I am sharing 3 ways to wear a maxi skirt that I love beyond your basic tee and basic tank top (both of which are great options).

maxi skirt with flowy top

Maxi Skirt Outfit 1: Wear your maxi skirt with a flowy top, crepe tops work really well, and do a  front tuck. Absolutely love this look and have done it myself several times this summer. The flowy material is cool in the summer heat and very forgiving, perfect for everyone.

maxi skirt with flowy tank

Maxi Skirt Outfit 2: Wear your maxi skirt with a dressy tank, you can choose whatever silhouette fits you best, I like banded tank tops with a bit of character for a dressier look ( the band gives your shape definition so you aren’t a blob).

graphic tee with maxi skirt

Maxi Skirt Outfit 3: Wear your maxi skirt with a  graphic tee, of course I would say this I am graphic tee obsessed to the point that I design and sell my own line of graphic tees! But seriously I love a great graphic tee with a maxi skirt, just be sure to tuck it in or you could even belt it!

My Favorite Ways to Style a Maxi Dress

I love a great maxi dress in summer, they are flattering, comfortable and no need to shave the legs (yes I went there). Plus they really are very versatile and no matter if you are short or tall, plus size or petite you can wear a maxi dress you just need the right one. I teamed up with a group of stylish ladies to talk about these fabulous dresses and show off how I style them. If you have been a reader for long you have seen maxi dresses pop up in your feed over and over again styled many ways so here are just 2 ways perfect for summer!

maxi dress with denim vest

With a denim vest: My current obsession is styling maxi dresses with a denim vest, it keeps me cool but adds a layer. BONUS it gives you a little extra tummy coverage so that’s a win for everyone. It also covers those pesky bra straps that don’t stay perfectly put or worse if your dress is racer back and you don’t want to wear a special bra, this solves that problem!

walmart maxi dress sun hat and infinity scarf

With a scarf:  I know you are thinking… a scarf won’t that be hot? Nope not if you pick a nice and light summer scarf, it’s the perfect accessory for a maxi dress!

What I Wore Real Mom Style: Camo Blessed Mama Tank

blessed mama camo tank

I am so excited to share with you all the newest item in my Etsy shop That Chic Mom Tees. I have been wanting to print some of my designs on organic cotton but it can get really pricey. Well when I saw the organic cotton camoflauge print tank I knew I had to do my Blessed Mama design on it, it is just too perfect a combination. All of my shirts are hand screen printed by an awesome couple local to Columbus, Ohio and they did an incredible job of making this tank top look exactly how I envisioned it.

I wore my new camo print tank to work at our parish festival over the weekend and I was so busy all night I never got a picture, but suffice to say very, very soft and I got lots of compliments! This is a limited edition one time print tank so if you love it grab it now before it is too late!

What to Wear to A Summer Wedding

kohls maxi dress

Wedding season is in full swing and the great thing about a summer wedding is all the fabulous options and you don’t have to worry about a coat or sweater to keep warn. Recently I popped into Kohl’s looking for the perfect dress for a summer wedding we have to attend and I found a great selection. Last summer I fell in love with coral and the love affair continues this summer. Kohl’s has the perfect dress for every body type and every type of wedding so whether you want short or long they have it. I fell in love with this black and white striped maxi dress with just a hint of coral in the pattern, it’s comfy and classy perfect for any wedding.

Men's Summer Wedding Fashion

Kohl’s also has a great selection of men’s options for summer weddings. For summer a light gray suit is perfect and it would look great with a coral plaid tie. Or if you want to stick with black you could do a coral shirt with a  black plaid tie, both would look very sharp.

coral summr dresses

If this maxi dress is not your style here are 5 more dresses all in coral that would be perfect for a summer wedding. To make sure your dress is dressed up enough for a wedding add one of these eye catching statement necklaces to really complete the look.

What I Wore Real Mom Style: Wide Leg Pants

wide leg pants

Well I did it, I jumped on the wide leg pants train and I have to say I love it! I found these stunning pants at Kohl’s and I had to refrain from buying them in two other prints. I love the flowy feel and the way they billow when I walk, heavenly! I thought I knew how I would pair these and I brought several tops into the fitting room with me, but in the end I fell in love with the top that is the perfect mix of flowy and fitted. I love that it accents the waist yet isn’t too fitted on my stomach ( where I want more flow). I ended up with a stylish flat too which was another opposite of what I assumed, I thought I would want a heel but these just fit and they add to the comfort of this outfit. I wore this to church on Sunday and it was perfect for chasing my baby girl and looking my Sunday best all at once.

What I Wore Real Mom Style: iRetreat Conference Fashion

iretreat

The past few days I have been in New Orleans at iRetreat enjoying fabulous company, inspirational speakers and a city bursting with personality. I have enjoyed strolling the streets and seeing all the beautiful buildings while here and the company has been amazing.

One of the new twists for me at a blogging conference is that this time I am also here as a brand, That Chic Mom Tees. It’s so interesting to meet people and listen to the information as both a blogger and a brand.

So without further ado here is what I have worn so far at iRetreat 2015!

cocktail dress

For the cocktail party I wore this fun Simply Vera dress from Kohl’s I got 2 years ago, with coral wedges and a fun new necklace I got at Cents of Style.

maxi dress with denim vest

For the first day of events including  super fun 2nd line parade I wore this great maxi dress I got at Sears a few years ago with a denim vest from Target. FASHION TIP: add a vest, jacket or cardigan to avoid bra strap issues on narrow strapped dresses.

What I Wore Real Mom Style: I’m A Caffeinated Taxi

caffeinated taxi me

I am really, really, excited about my newest shirt that I just added to my Etsy shop That Chic Mom Tees. The shirt says Caffeinated Taxi which is the perfect description for me and my life these days.

My youngest two kids are not great sleepers which means I am not getting much sleep by default. Since sleeping in is not an option I need lots and lots of caffeine to get me through the day. Most days I spend lots of time behind the wheel taxiing my kids from here to there. One day as I sat behind the wheel I joking told my husband I was a taxi running on caffeine and the idea for my caffeinated taxi shirt was born.

caffeinated taxi shirt outfit

I love how the shirts turned out and I even had it put on a tank top just for summer. The fit is loose and flowy yet flattering perfect for every busy, tired and highly caffeinated mom out there!

So if you see me wearing this shirt over and over again, well it’s because it fits my life so perfectly right now I can’t help myself, plus it’s flattering or at least I think so! You can order yours from my Etsy shop That Chic Mom Tees.

What I Wore Real Mom Style: The Perfect Tunic

Last week was a super crazy busy week for me, I spent a few days in Cincinnati as part of the Pampers Baby Board and we were busy. I learned about some awesome new changes to diapers coming in the fall BUT you will just have to wait on those details. Those two days were a giant breath of fresh air as I spent time with some amazing blogger friends who I hardly ever see in real life. All that to say life has been crazy busy since nothing stopped at home and I jumped right back into things when I arrived back home.

black tunic top

I have been struggling with finding time to workout and for the first time in my life (other than pregnancy) the scale is moving in the wrong direction. I am so not happy about this and sadly it does not seem to be motivating me just depressing me, so as I struggle to find time and motivation I am also frustrated with my wardrobe and it not fitting how I want. The good news is I did find a fabulous new top that I love, it’s a super flattering tunic from Kohl’s Simply Vera Vera Wang collection and I think I need it in the navy blue color too.

How to Wear Shorts According to 9 Stylish Moms

styling shorts as a mom

styling shorts

Does the word shorts make you feel uneasy? It does for me, I am not a shorts person and really only wear them on extremely warm days. But I am a busy mom and much of my summer is spent outside so I turn to shorts when the temps get way too high. Here is one of my favorite ways to wear shorts, with a flowy top and fun sandals.

Last summer I discovered boyfriend shorts and they changed my life, I finally found a short that was comfy and I felt good in. These shorts have become my go to pair any time I need a pair of shorts they look cute cuffed or you can unroll them for an unfinished cutoff look ( here is a more affordable pair).

blessed mama tee with shorts

Another look I love is adding a graphic tee and some colorful sandals, so fun and easy! Add some jewelry and you have a cute casual outfit.
